The Church of Venerable Theodor Studites ( Russian Храм Преподобного Феодора Студита у Никитских ворот Chram Prepodobnowo Feodora Studita u Nikitskich Vorot ) is a church of Theodor Studites in the Central Administrative District of Moscow .

It is located near Nikitskie Vorota Square (Nikitsky Gate) at 29 Nikitskaya Great Street.

history

The church was built from 1624 to 1626, later there were two renovations of the church building. The first renovation took place in 1812 after the fire in Moscow , in which the building was badly damaged, the second from 1865 to 1873. The church building was closed for services as early as 1922 under Soviet rule. Since 1927 the building has been used by various organizations. The bell tower remained unchanged until 1937, when it was dismantled down to the first floor.

In 1984 the reconstruction began, after which the establishment of the Suvorov Museum was planned. But in 1991 the Church of Venerable Theodor Studites was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church .

Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov lived near the Nikitsky Gate and was a parishioner of Theodor Studites' church. Today there is a plaque commemorating Suvorov. Suvorov's parents were buried in the church's cemetery: Vasily Iwanowitsch Suworow, a general and governor of East Prussia 1761–1762 during the Seven Years' War , and Avdotja Fedosejewna Manukowa. Other relatives of Suvorov are probably also buried there.
