Church education

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The church teaching is the doctrine of the mediation of the meaning content of church buildings . It develops independent methodological and didactic concepts in order to introduce visitors to churches to the technical, aesthetic-artistic, symbolic and, last but not least, spiritual dimension. It aims at people having their own experiences with all their senses of the space and structure of the church.

term

The (identical) term church pedagogy originally existed . Church pedagogy is more precise, as 'church pedagogy' as a word is open to any pedagogy of the church organization and in the church. Occasionally one speaks of church building pedagogy or church building pedagogy. Church pedagogy is best because it is a pedagogy that is practiced inside or outside of churches. The word component 'pedagogy' is controversial because it is often used in shortened form for the upbringing of children and young people. In fact, church education is dedicated to all groups of church visitors. Children are an important target group for the offers of education and placement, but more and more offers are also aimed at certain adult groups.

History and goals

Church education emerged in the school area of religious education , partly initiated by museum education that has been emerging since the beginning in the 1980s. Church education had a particular dynamic in the GDR, where it was recognized earlier than in the West that church buildings can be a bridge for people to encounter Christian content and Christian spirituality.

In addition to the religious education institutes, the experiences gathered were taken up by the people's missionary departments of the regional churches throughout Germany (Church in Tourism). Today church space education is used in church work for educational and missionary purposes.

The Bundesverband Kirchenpädagogik e. V. put it together: “Church pedagogy wants to open church rooms to people and to develop and convey the meaning of Christian churches with head, heart and hand in order to make the contents of the Christian religion known and to enable access to spiritual dimensions. - Church education means spatial and experience-related work in methodological variety. Church pedagogy brings people today with their existential horizon in relation to the church space in its grown shape. "(Preamble to the statutes, 2005)

Examples

Church opening . The goal of church space education is not only methodical work with groups, but also general accessibility of the church space and the provision of aids for the independent development of open churches by tourists and regular visitors. In recent years, in Protestant regional churches, whose church buildings were traditionally closed outside of the "church services", signs were created with which open churches can be identified and at the same time networked nationwide.

Church tour . Church pedagogy aims to deepen the traditional touristic-art-historical church management with a view to Christian symbols and spiritual dimensions. "Spiritual church tours" are offered more often. Beyond the spoken word, methods for all the senses enrich the path in and through the church. In terms of subject-oriented learning, particular importance is attached to the fact that the participants gain learning experiences in the church space less through spoken speech than through independent access. Training courses for leadership in church space were created in various institutions, some of which are certified by the Federal Association of Church Education.

Organizations

As a nationwide non-denominational association, the “Bundesverband Kirchenpädagogik e. V. “founded. The journal Kirchenpädagogik has been published there since 2001 .
