Japanese small pipe Kiseru

The Kiseru ( Japanese 煙 管 , German "smoke / smoke pipe") is a small Japanese pipe for smoking finely chopped tobacco ( 刻 み タ バ コ , kizami tabako ). Typically both ends, the mouthpiece and the pipe bowl, are made of metal, the pipe bowl being usually much narrower compared to western pipes and therefore allowing small loads to be heated to the lowest possible temperatures. Mouthpiece and pipe bowl are connected to a wooden shaft (typically made of bamboo ), called Rau ( 羅 宇 ), which can be replaced by a long, flexible plastic tube.
