Small computer

This article deals with the term small computer - for the NDR small computer see there.

The term small computer is

• a synonym used mainly in the GDR for home computers . For example, the computers of the KC 85 series, the KC 87 series and the KC compact were referred to as small computers .

• The term was used out of date - in contrast to mainframes - for a computer in professional use that "only" filled a cupboard instead of a floor and was therefore affordable for medium-sized companies, e.g. B. Computer of the performance class PDP or VAX (also small computers or minicomputers ).
