Bell string (including ringing males , blind mice Glöckerlpartie, bell mice , bell brushing , bell slides , bell tower , bell post , clamp males , clamp Kloppe or Schellebergerles ) is the name for pressing a doorbell to have no intention to visit the person. It's a prank that is mostly popular with children and teenagers . During the free night , the doorbell is sometimes swiped.
procedure
The trick is to ring one or more doorbells in a single or multi-family house and run away to protect yourself from being discovered. Sometimes an attempt is made to make the bell ring continuously, for example by jamming the doorbell button. Another variant, similar to a test of courage , is to stand in front of the door after the doorbell rings until someone resident opens the door. This variant is also known locally under the name rat penguin or mouse penguin .
The appeal of the prank is to annoy adults and watch their reactions from a safe distance. An added thrill is the risk of being discovered and held accountable.
Internationally, there are bell strikes practically everywhere where doorbells are available.
Legal assessment
Especially if the prank is carried out frequently or at night, it is legally a disturbance of the peace in Germany (administrative offense). In 1872 the " Town Police Clauses Act " was enacted in Great Britain and Ireland . a. forbids constantly ringing other people's doors.
