St. Peter and Paul Monastery (Coburg)

The Monastery of Saints Peter and Paul was a monastery of the Benedictine in Coburg ( Bavaria ) in the diocese of Wuerzburg .

history

The monastery, consecrated to St. Peter and Paul, was founded in 1074 as a provost by the Saalfeld monastery on Coburg Castle Hill. From around 1150 the monastery was relocated to the Morizkirche . From 1217 the respective provost was pastor of the parish of St. Moriz. Provost Martin Algauer handed over his monastery to the protection of the city of Coburg in 1524 during the Reformation. In 1555 ownership of the monastery passed entirely to the city. The last remains of the monastery building were demolished in 1829.
