Kluppe (forestry)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The clip is a common measuring instrument in forestry that is mainly used to determine the diameter of round timber . When the wood is lying down, the center diameter is usually measured, and when the wood is standing, the diameter at breast height (BHD). This activity is known as clipping. The measurement results are usually recorded in forms, the folding lists or also folding books.

The diameter is an input variable when determining the volume of wood (regulated in Germany by the HKS commercial class grading). The volume is in turn required to calculate the piece rate and the prices for round timber .

Different clips
Use a clip to determine the diameter

Mechanical clips are similar to a large caliper . The recently used electronic clips enable electronic measurement and storage of the measurement data for further digital processing. There are different designs, some of which are based on the mechanical clip.
