Crack
Cracking stands for a hard, short noise (e.g. when a dead tree branch breaks). From this, processes that - originally - are associated with such a cracking are also named as follows:
- Cracking fingers
- Breaking open a nut or similar fruit with a hard shell in order to get to the (usable) core
- Breaking open a safe or similar security container or vehicle to get at its contents
- deciphering an encrypted message without knowing the key, see breaking (cryptology)
- a synonym for sleep
