Toggle chain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A toggle chain or guide chain is a shackle tool that is used to lead prisoners away . It consists of a chain and a T-shaped toggle at each end.

Toggle chains are placed around the prisoner's wrist and then twisted. The pain it causes is supposed to make the prisoners compliant. The gagging can also damage the wrist.

Toggle chains were part of the standard equipment of the police , the penal system and the state security in the GDR .
