The articulated shaft paddle , also known as the Bentshaft paddle , is a special type of paddle in which the shaft is curved in a special way ( bent = bent, angled). Bentshaft paddle are both double paddle as well as bladed paddle made. The use in kayaks and Canadians is not the same, but they are basically higher quality paddles for the ( semi- ) professional sector.

Double paddle

In the articulated shaft double paddle, the shaft is curved in an S-shape in the grip area, thus enabling a paddle to be held with a smaller angle of the wrist. In this way, it improves paddle control, even in a highly exposed position, and at the same time prevents wrist overload and, as a result, tendinitis . Articulated shaft double paddles are almost exclusively made of plastics.

In the case of the articulated shank paddle, the shaft is usually straight, but clearly bent at the blade root (10 ° to 15 °). It is significantly shorter than the usual single paddle and is mainly used in race paddling. One style of paddling for articulated shaft paddles is the so-called Sit'n'switch . Its use in whitewater is unusual because of its highly asymmetrical shape. Articulated shank paddles are mainly made of wood.
