List of breeds of chicken

The Ko Shamo ( Japanese小 軍 鶏) is a breed of fighting chickens bred in Japan, which has been looked after by the Nippon Kogata Shamo Hozonkai since 1951 . At first it was called “Ko Gunkei” in Germany - this name never existed in Japan.

The Ko Shamo are a small Japanese fighter breed, they are an independent breed and not a dwarf of another Japanese fighter breed such as the Shamo .

The most important thing about Ko Shamo is the type. It consists of a strongly erect posture, very short and tightly fitting plumage, pronounced shoulders and a strong head.

With the body of Ko Shamo one speaks of the "thirding" of the body. One third should be head and neck, one third trunk and one third thighs and legs. The longer the neck, the more noble the chicken is. The head of the Ko Shamo has a very special charisma due to the pearl-colored eye, the eyebrow and the walnut comb. The angular-looking shoulders should be the widest part of the body. The wing gap or the so-called "open wing" is very unusual for the breeder of other chickens / bantams. Due to the very scarce fletching of the Ko Shamo breed, the axial spring is very small, which makes it look like a gap in the wing. The breastbone (in the rooster) is featherless and very noticeable due to a very strong red colored strip of skin, also an effect of the scarce fletching. The tail should be feathered briefly, the outer control feathers are bent upwards and result in the so-called "shrimp tail".

The hen is not quite as erect in the attitude. They have the same requirements for the breed characteristics as for a typical rooster, with the exception of gender-related characteristics.

In Germany, the Ko Shamo are bred in many different colors, they are available in gold wheat color, silver wheat color, white, black, yellow with a black tail, sparrowed , blue or blue gold wheat color , red saddled, black / red or white with a black tail.
