Kogyae reservation

The Kogyae Reserve (English Kogyae Strict Nature Reserve ) is an animal reserve in Ghana in the Ashanti region with a total area of ​​approx. 50,000 hectares located in the transition zone between tropical rainforest and wet savannah .

This area is located on a traditionally sacred area that gained this status due to a tribal war between the Kumawu and Kwamang .

This reserve is only accessible for research purposes and with special permission. This protected area is nevertheless severely affected by poachers and harassed by the nearby agriculture. Five species of monkeys in particular are protected here. The waterbuck is the symbol of this reserve.
