Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention Commission

The Commission for Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention (KRINKO) develops guidelines for hospital hygiene and infection prevention, which are published by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) and are published, for example, in the RKI's Epidemiological Bulletin or in the Federal Health Gazette. The tasks and competencies of KRINKO have been defined in the Infection Protection Act since 2001 and anchored in law. The scientific office of the KRINKO is located at the RKI.

The main focus of the work of KRINKO is the reprocessing of medical instruments and medical products as well as the protection of users and patients from contamination. The hygiene measures in inpatient care, such as hand disinfection , are based on the recommendations of KRINKO. The current recommendation on hand hygiene appeared in 2016.
