Kompogas

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kompogas is a worldwide registered trademark and a patented process for the anaerobic digestion of organic waste. The basis of the continuous and fully automatic process is to bring the valuable organic waste back into a cycle.

The pioneer who tested the process and built up the company of the same name was Walter Schmid . In 1989 Walter Schmid - after the tinkering on the terrace at home around 1988 - created a fermenter of 20 cubic meters and in 1991, with initial funding from the Canton of Zurich, the first fully developed plant, which made biogas and biogas from the initially difficult to obtain green waste Could produce compost . Schmid had to assert himself against politicians of all stripes to get any green waste at all. As early as 2005, the Handelszeitung wrote that rising energy prices will help in the future.

The start under the name Kompogas took place in Rümlang with an annual output of approx. 2.8 million kWh. Since 1995, trucks from Walter Schmid AG and Kompogas have been running on biogas. The composts and digestate produced in the Swiss plants can often be obtained free of charge by the population and are certified for organic farming.

From 2006 Axpo held a minority stake in Kompogas, from 2011 it was the sole owner of the company, before the plant construction was taken over by the Japanese-Swiss clean-tech company Hitachi Zosen Inova AG in October 2014. The electricity producer Axpo continues to operate 15 Kompogas plants in Switzerland. Over 80 systems are in operation worldwide.

The Kompogas process has been continuously developed and is now available in different fermenter sizes.
