Kon-Boot ( kon boot , konboot ) is a software utility that enables users to bypass Microsoft Windows passwords and Apple MacOS passwords (Linux support has been discontinued) without making permanent or permanent changes to the system on the causing it to run. It is also the first tool reported to be able to bypass Windows 10 online (live) passwords and support both Windows and macOS systems.
history
Kon-Boot was originally developed as a proof-of-concept, freeware security tool, especially for people who tend to forget their passwords. The main idea was to allow users to log into the target computer without knowing the correct password and without making permanent changes to the system on which it is running.
The first Kon-Boot version was announced on the DailyDave mailing list in 2008. Version 1.0 (freeware) enabled users to log into Linux-based operating systems and bypass the authentication process (access to the system without knowing the password).
In 2009 the author of this software announced Kon-Boot for Linux and 32-bit Microsoft Windows systems. This version offered additional support for bypassing Windows system passwords on every Windows operating system from Windows Server 2008 to Windows 7. This version is still available as freeware.
The latest Kon-Boot versions are only available as commercial products and will continue to be maintained. The current version (3.1) is able to bypass passwords on the following operating systems:

technology
Kon-Boot works like a boot kit (which is why it often generates false-positive warnings in anti-virus software). It injects (hides) itself into BIOS memory. Kon-Boot changes the kernel during operation and temporarily modifies the code that is responsible for checking the user's authorization data while the operating system is being loaded.
In contrast to password reset tools like CHNTPW, Kon-Boot does not change system files and SAM-Hive, all changes are temporary and disappear after a system restart.
Restrictions (prevention)
Users concerned about tools like Kon-Boot should use hard disk encryption ( FileVault , Truecrypt , VeraCrypt , Bitlocker etc.) as Kon-Boot is unable to bypass hard disk encryption. BIOS password and activated SecureBoot function are also a good preventive measure.
