The 'Constantinople apple quince' , also 'Constantinople quince' or 'Constantinople' , is an old cultivar of the quince . Its origin is unknown, it may come from Turkey.

Variety characteristics

The variety 'Constantinople Quince' places average demands on the location and experience has shown that it is also well suited for less warm locations. Like all quinces on a quince backing, it is sensitive to high calcium content. Refinements on mountain ash are more lime-tolerant, but more prone to fire blight. The growth is medium strong, depending on the substrate. The wood also tolerates relatively severe frost. For fire blight to be slightly less vulnerable than many other quince varieties except newer cultivars like 'Robusta'. The 'Constantinople Quince' is only partially self-fertile, so that it may bring higher yields when grown together with other varieties. 'Bereczki' is considered a suitable pollination variety.

The fruits of the 'Constantinople Quince' are medium-sized and weigh about 250 g. Their shape is not always apple-shaped, but can vary considerably. This could be due to different types of play . The shell is light yellow to golden yellow, on the side facing the sun it can be slightly rusty brown. Ripe fruits are only slightly felted.
