Control bunker

A control bunker is a massive structure on a rocket launch site to monitor the launch of the rocket. It is designed as a massive explosion-proof structure to protect the people on duty in it.

In many more modern systems, a lighter control building is used instead of a bunker. The control center is located at the launch pad for the launch of the space shuttle, five kilometers from the launch pad, so that no bunkered structure is necessary.

In the case of mobile launching systems, a tank can also take over the task of the control bunker. This was practiced, for example, when the V2 launched in World War II and when the rockets from Berthold Seliger Research and Development Corporation were launched in the early 1960s.

Control bunkers are also used in systems for static combustion tests on rocket engines. Here, too, bunkering is essential to protect people in the event of an explosion.

The control centers for carrying out nuclear tests were also designed as bunkers.
