The war memorial badge ( Croatian Ratni spomenznak ) was a state war award of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH).

The ribbon order was donated on December 29, 1943 by the leader Ante Pavelić . Until certain foreign medals and decorations were banned from wearing, it was also worn by German soldiers in the Wehrmacht .

Appearance and wearing style

The white and blue ribbed ribbon with white stripes and red hem is 26 mm wide, the blue ribs have a length of 12 mm. The red border and the white bars are both approx. 3 mm wide. The bronze or silver national coat of arms awarded with the ribbon when the award requirement is met is, however, approx. 22 mm wide and 11 mm high and showed the small Croatian coat of arms whose plaid is enamelled in red. Due to numerous manufacturers, including some German ones, the sizes and colors of the clasp vary considerably. The ribbon was worn on the ribbon buckle or similar to the ribbon of the German Iron Cross 2nd class on the second buttonhole of the uniform .

Award requirement

Ribbon

All members of the Croatian Wehrmacht were entitled to the ribbon of the war memorial badge if they had served at least one year in the territory of the Independent State of Croatia or had spent a year in a theater of war outside the borders of the state in the association of allied armies.

Ribbon with a clasp

The ribbon with the national coat of arms, on the other hand, was only awarded if the claimant had been in direct contact with the enemy or had been deployed in combat units on a theater of war for at least six months, or at the same time managed the operational deployment of such combat units. The same applied to the members of the gendarmerie , the state labor service, the state police station, the financial station and the civilians integrated into the armed forces.
