Léon Fairmaire

Léon Marc Herminie Fairmaire (born June 29, 1820 in Paris , † April 1, 1906 in Paris) was a French entomologist . His main research area were the beetles ( Coleoptera ). In the course of his scientific life, he built up an extensive collection of specimens, some of which are now kept in the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle , the natural history museum in Paris. He published several hundred papers on the Coleoptera . In 1854 and again in 1891 he was president of the Société entomologique de France and in 1902, after 60 years of membership, he became its honorary president.
