LZ4 is a free program library for compressing and decompressing data. The algorithm belongs to the LZ77 family and was developed by Yann Collet. It is designed for high compression and decompression speeds.

LZ4 is used by the ZFS and SquashFS file systems for on-the-fly compression; it is also integrated into Elasticsearch .
