Labium (insect)
Labium of the American cockroach ( Periplaneta americana )
The labium ( lat. Labium "lip") is the "lower lip" of insects , a component of the mouthparts . The labium is created by fusing the two second maxillae . Labia can be inconspicuously small or elongated (e.g. with piercing-sucking mouthparts).
