Lamis from Megara

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lamis of Megara was the leader of a large number of colonists from his Greek homeland who tried to establish themselves around 730 BC during the course of Greek colonization . To settle together with the Chalcidians in Sicily . However, they separated from the Chalkidis a short time later, as they had appropriated the best places to settle, namely Naxos (Sicily) , Leontinoi and Katane right from the start . So they founded Trotilon . Theocles , the leader of the Chalkidians, finally offered them to be allowed to settle in Leontinoi on the condition that they would help drive out the Sikeler who were still indigenous there. Theocles, however, soon ousted them again, so that they were forced to move on under their leader, Lamis, to look for another suitable settlement. They eventually founded Thapsos , where he died.
