The rural municipality of Rovaniemi (Finnish: Rovaniemen maalaiskunta ) is a former municipality in Finnish Lapland . It included the area around the city of Rovaniemi . According to a resolution from 2004, on January 1, 2006, the rural community and the city of Rovaniemi were merged.

The rural municipality of Rovaniemi covered an area of ​​7,915.51 km² (409.06 km² of which were inland waterways) and last had around 22,000 inhabitants. The villages Hirvas, Jaatila, Kemihaara, Korkalo, Marrasjärvi, Misi, Meltausjärvi, Muurola, Nampa, Nivankylä, Rautiosaari, Saarenkylä, Sinettä, Sonka, Tapionkylä and Ylikylä belonged to it.
