Laopo cake (wife cake) is a circular Cantonese cake filled with wax gourd and sticky rice ; the filling of the cake is seasoned with sugar.

origin

There are several origins of the Laopo cake. It is said that there used to be a wealthy married couple in China. The wife baked the crispy cakes with wax pumpkin filling at home, and her husband then sold them at the market. The cakes were so popular that the man named the cakes “Laopo” (Laopo is Chinese and means wife) because the cakes were baked by his wife.
