Latin American Motorcycle Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Latin American Motorcycle Association (LAMA or LAMA) is a motorcycle club based in Chicago . The prerequisite for membership is driving your own motorcycle. Women are also accepted as full members. It is an international motorcycle organization with around 7,500 members in over 24 countries.

Life partners, spouses, children and siblings can be accepted as "social members".

history

The compound was founded in 1977 in Chicago . Since it was founded, LAMA has been a moto-touring club with democratic ideas. In 1999 the LAMA became an international association (IMA). The first international chapters were founded in Puerto Rico, Mexico and Cuba.

Today there are over 160 chapters in America, Asia, Europe and Australia.

The club has developed into an "International Humanist Association".

LAMA members are warmly welcomed in every chapter worldwide. The LAMA is recognized as one of the most active moto-touring clubs.

There are many women in society (DAMAS DE LAMA) who “ride their own” with their own motorcycle.

The association offers scholarships, promotes diversity and offers a common place where bikers can share their knowledge and experiences with others.

Membership types

There are the following types of membership:

Full member

Anyone who has a valid motorcycle license and has access to a motorcycle can become a member of the LAMA.

Associate Member

Relatives and life partners can be accepted as associate members.

Junior Member

Children of full members can become junior members.

Prospect

Before someone can be accepted as a member, they must take part in as many activities as possible in their chapter for at least 6 months with prospect status. After this “trial period”, the prospect can be elected full member by the chapter members upon request.

organization

The international board, as well as all other positions, are democratically elected.

To found a chapter, at least seven interested parties are required who meet the membership requirements as "Active Members". Each chapter elects its own board. The following board positions (officer) exist: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Road Captain. President and Vice President must be full members, the other 3 offices can be held by any member. Only Secretary and Treasurer are permitted as dual functions.

All chapters can only be founded with the consent of the international board. Once the chapter has been founded, it is always in the "organized status". At least 15 members are required for a full chapter and the international board of directors must give their consent.

Today there are around 160 chapters, including six in Germany and one each in Switzerland, France and Spain, with over 7,500 members worldwide.
