Leaching

The Laugierung is like mercerisation a finishing process for cotton fabric. Here, too, the cotton is treated with alkaline substances, but without tension.

Depending on the alkali ion solution, there is a different swelling, since no forces act on the fiber, but there is also no change in the cross-sectional structure as in mercerization .

This swelling leads to the fact that the goods are compacted, evened out in terms of color and show a higher liquor uptake (this means, for example, a deeper color and thus a saving of dyes) than the original goods.

The process increases the quality of the textiles significantly, but is expensive. Therefore it is only used on textiles of the highest quality.
