Launchy (from English to launch : to start) is free software for Windows and Linux that enables websites , links and files to be called up using the input line . For this purpose, the input is checked for corresponding matches with the internal database and previous search queries.

Launchy is released for free under the free GNU GPL license .

Functions

Among other things, URL (both Internet addresses and local files, the latter with automatic completion), names of files, shortcuts, bookmarks from the Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox web browsers as well as simple calculations can be processed. You can also define abbreviations for websites and programs to which a parameter can be passed. The user can also determine which file types from which folders are included in the database. The program runs in the background and is called up using a key combination.

The program can be expanded with numerous plug-ins and skins .
