Lawrence J. Quirk
Lawrence J. Quirk (born September 9, 1923 in Lynn , Massachusetts , † October 17, 2014 in New York City ) was an American writer, journalist and film historian .
Life
Lawrence J. Quirk was the nephew of James R. Quirk, editor of Photoplay , a US film magazine and founder of the Photoplay Award . Quirk was also the nephew of brothers William P. Connery and Lawrence J. Connery , members of the US House of Representatives for the state of Massachusetts .
After serving as an army officer in the Korean War , Qurik initially worked as a reporter for newspapers for the Hearst Corporation and as editor of the film magazine Screen Stars . His journalistic focus included working as a film critic . Since 1960 Quirk has published more than thirty books on filmmakers and film history . In his research he was able to include his friendships with actors in Hollywood and his contacts with politicians such as the Kennedys . At the same time Quirk worked for American radio and television programs.
Quirk died in Manhattan , NYC , in October 2014, at the age of 91 , of complications from pneumonia.
