Auguste Vimar: Le Chêne et le Roseau

Le Chêne et le Roseau ( German : oak and reed ) is a French fable by Jean de La Fontaine , written in 1668. It is about an oak and a reed fighting over which of them is the stronger. The oak, though defying the normal wind, was subject to the reeds that bent in front of it. Because when the wind got stronger, the oak broke, whereas the reeds were able to stand up again after the storm. Jean Anouilh wrote a modification in 1973 under the same title, but with a slightly different moral .
