Lead (barbershop)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the barbershop, lead is the name for the lead and melody voice. The second highest voice usually takes over the melody in barbershop singing; she leads the other voices (from English to lead). In a male choir, the pitch corresponds to the 2nd tenor.

The lead voice is called the lead, regardless of whether the ensemble is a male quartet or choir, a female quartet or choir or a mixed ensemble.
