The term liver cancer covers the malignant ( malignant ) tumors of the liver . The now uncommon term hepatoma summarizes the primary neoplasms of the liver, which includes not only malignant but also benign ( benign ) adenomas of the liver. In malignant tumors, a distinction is made between primary and secondary liver tumors .
Primary liver tumors
Primary liver tumors start from the tissue of the liver. The two main types are:
- Liver cell carcinoma ( hepatocellular carcinoma , HCC)
- Bile duct carcinoma (cholangiocellular carcinoma, CCC).
Secondary liver tumors
Secondary tumors of the liver are metastases from cancerous tumors of other organs.
