action
At the center of the utopian novel “Lienhard and Gertrud” is the village of Bonnal, in which poverty and moral corruption compete with one another. The cause of the evil seems to be Hummel, the corrupt village governor and owner of the inn. The society that Pestalozzi outlines here and that creates the necessary comprehensive conditions for people to grow into an orderly and good environment is still based entirely on the "fatherly mind" of an aristocratic ruler.
