Lindlbrunnen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lindlbrunnen stands on the Traunstein town square and was built in 1526. The Lindl, a Wappner who keeps watch on the city fountain, could be St. Leonhard . The original figure was created in 1526 by the master stonemason Steffan from red Ruhpolding marble . The iron knight, surrounded by his Landsknechten in Frundsberg uniforms, reminds of the former city governor, protector of urban rights and freedoms and defender of Traunstein in the War of the Bavarian Succession (1504), Hans von Schaumburg, around 1526 carer in Traunstein, with the "golden" chain Feather beret and black velvet coat. He rides a black horse, surrounded by his men. The knight Lindl also plays an important role in the annual Georgiritt in Traunstein.
