Lismore is a German folk band.

history

The band's name originated in the early days of the band, when the music was shaped by German, Irish and French traditionals . Later on, his own instrumental pieces and settings of poems by the French poet François Villon came to the fore. In 1986 Kerstin Schatz (concertina, flutes, vocals), Stefan Hoffmann (bagpipes and other blowers, vocals) and Sven Puchelt (guitar, vocals) founded the group Lismore. In 1987 they were accompanied by Matthias Federle (guitar, mandolin) and in 1988 by Rainer Himmele (violin, mandolin, guitar). In autumn 1988 Rainer left the band and was replaced by Bernd Funke (guitar, bouzouki, mandolin) and Dirk Niemeier (bass, violin).

With this change, Lismore's music changed significantly. In the early days this was shaped by German, Irish and French traditionals, but now instrumental pieces and settings by the French poet François Villon came to the fore. "The five musicians play carelessly in German, Celtic and central French folk music and thus create their own style that is characterized by the joy of playing and musical adventure" (Süddeutsche Zeitung) . Since 1995 Lismore has been playing in the current line-up with Paul Reinig (accordion, guitar, mandolin, percussion) and Florian Funk (bass, violin).
