List of Austrian film production companies
The list of Austrian film production companies includes all such companies that have produced at least one cinema or television film. Large film production companies in this list are those that have produced at least 10 films that have also been shown in cinemas or broadcast on television.
Foundations by epoch
Apart from the clearly definable silent film era and the era from around 1980 onwards, generally referred to in film history as New Austrian Film , the other epochs are arbitrarily set to around three decades and are also based on the fact that early sound film production was essentially based on music and homeland films as well as purely on Comedies focused on entertainment and distraction, while this film culture came to an end in the 1960s and was replaced by more profound filmmaking in which drama played a larger role (Neuer Österreichischer Film) .
Silent movie era (until 1930)
Regarding the film production companies of the silent film era, it must be noted that the films back then were much shorter than the feature films that are common today. The Austrian film production also achieved already 1921/1922 culminating with about 70 feature films (then around 30 minutes) and between 50 and 60 shorter productions in each of the two years.
