List of entries for the best foreign language film for the 1983 Academy Awards
The following 25 films, all from different countries, were nominations in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the 1983 Academy Awards . The highlighted titles were the five ultimately nominated films, which come from France, Nicaragua, Sweden, Spain and the Soviet Union. The Oscar went to Volver A Empezar , who represented Spain.
For the first time a film from Nicaragua was submitted for this award. The film Yol - The Path , which actually comes from Turkey, was submitted from Switzerland . However, this was banned there due to its political content and smuggled into Switzerland and cut in Paris.
