List of United States Ambassadors in Algeria
The list of ambassadors of the United States in Algeria provides an overview of the heads of the US diplomatic mission in Algeria since 1962. On July 5, 1962, the North African state gained independence from France ; a few months later, on September 29, the United States opened its embassy in Algiers . During the time of the military dictatorship under Houari Boumedienne , diplomatic relations were largely interrupted: Between 1967 and 1974, the USA only provided "interest representation" through the Swiss embassy in Algiers. Leading diplomats were Lewis Hoffacker and later William L. Eagleton . Current Ambassador John Desrocher began his service in September 2017.
