The national associations' German women's team championships have been held since 1979 and are held annually. Initially, the four finalists were determined in preliminary groups, where, for example, NRW failed several times to Hessen. Baden was eliminated in 1990 by Württemberg in a preliminary round in Mainz.

In total, more than 250 players took part each year. Only later could each national association register a team for the final. Some countries were allowed to compete with two teams. When they participated for the first time in 1991, the East German states were able to assert themselves immediately.

overview

In the 40 team championships since 1979, the team from North Rhine-Westphalia recorded 17 wins, Hesse and Saxony 5 each.

The 2017 championship was won by the women from Württemberg (photo on the right).

In 2018, the German Chess Federation held this women's championship for the 40th time. A second anniversary was due for 2018, because the women's team championship was held for the 25th time in Braunfels in 2018. The organizers in Braunfels are the Schachfreunde Braunfels eV , which will also host the national championship in 2019. Many teams registered early for the big event.
