from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hamburger SV SV Werder Bremen

The list of competitive games between Hamburger SV and Werder Bremen includes all competitive games between the first men's teams of the two most successful football clubs in Northern Germany, Hamburger SV and Werder Bremen . This encounter is - as well as encounters between other teams from northern Germany among themselves - also known as the north derby .

This list contains all competitive games since the first meeting in 1927. The encounter between Hamburger SV and Werder Bremen is the one that has taken place most frequently since the Bundesliga was founded. Until 2018, Hamburger SV belonged to the league without interruption since it was founded in 1963. SV Werder Bremen, which is also one of the founding members of the Bundesliga, only played in the second Bundesliga in the 1980/81 season , making it the sole record holder for most Bundesliga appearances since the 2019/20 season after the HSV failed to rise again . In the Oberliga Nord the match took place every season between 1947/48 and 1962/63.

Since the first meeting in the preliminary round of the North German Championship in 1926/27, 143 competitive games have taken place between the two clubs, the majority of them in the Bundesliga and the Oberliga Nord. Overall, with 154 clashes, it is one of the most frequently held football derbies in Germany.

In the 2008/09 season, the clubs played against each other four times within 18 days, including a league game in Bremen, a cup game in Hamburg and twice in the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.

description

The cities of Bremen and Hamburg are around 123 kilometers apart. Other games between clubs from northern Germany are also referred to as “ North Derby ”, for example the game between Werder Bremen and Hannover 96 , a game between Bremen and VfL Wolfsburg or a game between HSV and Holstein Kiel .

background

The game between SV Werder and Hamburger SV is the game that was played most often in the Bundesliga: Bremen had only missed a single season in the Bundesliga, HSV played uninterruptedly in the highest German from 1963 to 2018 Division. It also adds to the rivalry that both clubs are the leading clubs in their cities and that both Bremen and Hamburg are the largest Hanseatic cities as well as the largest northern German cities. The catchment areas of both clubs are adjacent and it is not uncommon for the two to overlap. The districts of Cuxhaven and Rotenburg (Wümme) in Lower Saxony are particularly affected by the overlap . The supporters of both clubs live in the immediate vicinity and the dominance of the supporters of both clubs alternates from place to place.

The corner kick that led to the decisive goal was caused by a paper ball that deflected the ball into the goal. The said cardboard board was part of the choreography held by the Hamburg fans before the game , which was then thrown onto the field.

This list includes every person who had an amateur or professional contract as a player with at least one of the two clubs and who worked at the other club, if not as a player (including youth players), at least one higher post in the professional field (coach or official) held or has.

Explanation of the table:
The arrow "→" indicates a direct change from HSV to SVW or vice versa.
The arrow "↝" indicates a career path from HSV to SVW or vice versa with intermediate station / s.
The arrow "⥂" indicates a loan from HSV to SVW or vice versa without an intermediate stop.
The arrow "⥂↝" indicates a loan from HSV to SVW or vice versa with intermediate station / s.

The highest eligibility to play in a club for a corresponding period is always given. The term amateur is only valid until a player is also eligible to play for the respective 1st team - even if the player remains with the professionals without commitment. The indication of the year numbers, which refer to the amateur status , apply analogously only for the period in which a player without a professional contract was in this club. If a professional is also used by the amateurs, this does not extend the year specification for amateur . As of November 25, 2016
