List of members of the Austrian Federal Council (XXV legislative period)
This is a list of the members of the Austrian Federal Council during the XXV. Legislative period of the National Council. The XXV. The legislative period of the National Council began on October 29, 2013 and ended on November 8, 2017. Since the composition of the Federal Council changes continuously after state elections, the subdivision is based on the respective legislative periods of the National Council. Therefore, the legislative period of the Federal Council always begins with the constitution of a newly elected National Council and ends with the reconstitution of the subsequent National Council, without the Federal Council itself having to reconstitute itself at either point in time.
Changes during the legislative period
The fact that the Federal Council is appointed by the state parliaments means that the composition of the Federal Council can change after each state election. In accordance with the mandate relationships achieved in the state parliament elections, they send party representatives to the Federal Council in proportion to this. During the 25th legislative period, there were regional elections in Vorarlberg in 2014 , in Burgenland in 2015 , in Upper Austria in 2015 , in Styria in 2015 , and in Vienna in 2015 .
After the Upper Austrian state elections, the ÖVP and SPÖ each lost one mandate, while the FPÖ gained two seats in the Federal Council. The state elections in Styria brought exactly the same result: ÖVP and SPÖ each lost one member of the Federal Council, while the FPÖ was able to gain two members of the Styrian Federal Council. In the state elections in Vienna, the ÖVP lost its only Vienna Federal Council mandate to the FPÖ, which sent four Vienna Federal Council members from 2015. The state elections in Vorarlberg and Burgenland, however, did not result in any changes to the (party-like) composition of the Federal Council. Overall, therefore, in the 25th legislative period, the ÖVP lost three mandates and the SPÖ two mandates in the Federal Council, while the FPÖ was able to gain these five mandates.
However, the FPÖ lost two mandates during the legislative period outside of state elections: On June 16, 2015, Dietmar Schmittner was expelled from the party and parliamentary group after joining the group around the renegade former Salzburg state party leader Karl Schnell . Schmittner thus became a non-attached member of the Federal Council. The FPÖ lost another mandate in the course of filling the mandate of Gerhard Dörfler , who announced his resignation in March 2017. After the Carinthian FPÖ announced that Dörfler's successor in the Federal Council was Dietmar Rautner, but had not previously discussed this with Jutta Arztmann , who was in front of Rautner , she declared that she would not waive her mandate. She subsequently left the party and accepted the Bundesrat mandate as a non-attached member.
