List of the number one albums in the German-speaking album charts

The list of number one albums in the German German-language album charts lists all the albums that reached the top of the official German German-language album charts in the respective week .

Database and information on the interpretation of the statistics listed

The German German-language album charts are determined by the German market research company GfK Entertainment on behalf of the Federal Music Industry Association . You record sales of image or sound carriers , downloads and music streaming with German-language content as end users. They show an excerpt from the regular album Top 100 , in which sales are recorded regardless of any repertoire segment. The German album charts in German are so-called “artist charts”, which means that samplers are not taken into account. A parallel placement of a product both in the album Top 100 and in the German-language album Top 15 is therefore not only possible in principle, but will be the rule for products that sell well.

From July 15, 1962 to November 15, 1976 the album charts were determined monthly, from December 15, 1976 to August 31, 1978 every six months. Thereafter, the sales figures for the albums within a week are used as a benchmark. In previous years it was sometimes common to group different versions of a song by different performers. In addition to the main artist, these other artists are added in brackets. The music market determined these figures until 1977, Media Control GmbH & Co.KG from 1977 and GfK Entertainment since 2013. The data up to 2015 consist of a separate analysis in which the most successful German-language album was filtered out of the official German album charts. Since 2015, GfK Entertainment has published the official “Top 15 German-language albums”, in which GfK uses the same principle to filter the 15 most successful albums from the album charts of each chart week.

The evaluations of the German German-language album charts shown here only describe artists who stayed at the top of the chart evaluation particularly often or for a particularly long time. However, no sales figures or further commercial success can be derived from this. The evaluations of the German album charts presented here only describe the most successful German-language albums. This doesn't mean an official number one or top 10 success . Most of the album content (over 50%) must be written in German. Instrumental pieces are completely excluded from the list.
