The list of the Royal Consorts of the British Monarchs chronologically lists all the spouses of the British monarchs since the merger of the Kingdoms of England and Scotland and the associated establishment of the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1707 up to the present day. The list does not include the Queen Regnants of Great Britain who rule in their own right (→ List of British Monarchs ).

For a listing of the previous Royal Consorts, see List of Royal Consorts of English Monarchs and List of Royal Consorts of Scottish Monarchs

The wife of the British King is usually referred to as the Queen Consort or often just as the Queen . Women as ruling queens ( Queen Regnant ) are rarer, which is why there is no fixed designation for the position of a male royal consort . So was Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha , the husband of Queen Victoria of 1857 the official title of Prince Consort awarded, while Prince Philip , the husband of Elizabeth II. Since 1957 the title of Prince ( Prince wears).

The usual title for the British Queens Consort was from 1727 Queen consort of Great Britain and Ireland , from 1801 Queen consort of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland , from 1901 Queen consort of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and of the British Dominions beyond the Seas and from 1927 Queen consort of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas .

List of Royal Consorts of Great Britain (from 1707)

Only the recognized Royal Consorts whose marriages fall during the reign of the respective British monarch are included in the list. This excludes spouses of British monarchs whose marriage was divorced or declared null and void before their spouse ascended to the throne, as was the case with Sophie Dorothea von Braunschweig-Lüneburg (* 1666; † 1726), wife of the later George I (1714-1727) and Maria Fitzherbert (* 1756; † 1837), first wife of the later George IV (1820-1830) was the case. Wallis Simpson (* 1896; † 1986), who married her husband, the former Edward VIII (1936), only after his abdication is not counted among the Queen Consorts .
