Boreas Mill Boreas Mølle
|
The street name is reminiscent of the windmill that was initially built in 1799/1800 by the businessman Andreas Christiansen senior in the Museumberg Park . There it was to the southwest of the Heinrich Sauermann House . The name of the mill was perhaps made with a conscious reference to the god of the north wind in Greek mythology Boreas . The Riepenburger mill in Hamburg-Kirchwerder also bears the name " Boreas ". In 1852/54 the Flensburg Boreasmühle was relocated from the park behind the Friedenshügel to the country road to Leck (see Lecker Chaussee ). So obviously roughly where Boreasmühle Street is. In 1890 the Boreas Mill finally burned down. The Gertruyde mill, also called Agathe, which stood west of the Bellevue restaurant, was evidently moved to replace the burnt down windmill. (Where the Gertruyde or Agathe windmill originally stood, is now the old grammar school ( location ). The mill is depicted on a glazing of the neighboring Jens-Jessen-Haus . There is an annex on the Nordergraben where the Bellevue restaurant was located the school.) In 1939 the renewed Boreasmühle (or the relocated windmill Gertruyde or Agathe) was finally demolished. The street Boresmühle was apparently officially named on May 4, 1957. |

This road connection, on which today's Burgweg runs, was also known as Burg-Weg around 1859 , since the Handewitter could probably get to their bailiff on Duburg via this route , whereby the route also led past the area where the Hoenborg were located should.
