All 22 provinces, the 4 directly administered cities, the 5 self-administered areas and the two special administrative areas of the People's Republic of China are listed , sorted according to their population. Taiwan is excluded. Also not included are Kinmen and the Matsu Islands , which are part of Fujian Province but are not under the control of the PRC.
