List of constituencies and constituency associations of the Weimar Republic
The list of constituencies and constituency associations of the Weimar Republic contains the constituencies and constituency associations for the Reichstag elections in the German Reich from 1920 to 1933. The list was an appendix to the Reich Election Act of April 1920.
Electoral system
For the elections to the Reichstag of the Weimar Republic , Germany was divided into 35 constituencies, which in turn were grouped into constituency associations. The electoral system of the Weimar Republic stipulated that a constituency list was initially assigned one seat in the Reichstag for every 60,000 votes in a constituency . In a second step, all the remaining votes in the linked lists in the respective constituency association were added together. For every 60,000 of these remaining votes, the linked lists were again given a seat, but only if at least one of the constituency lists was able to achieve at least 30,000 votes. In a third distribution step, the remaining votes of the constituency associations were combined across the empire and in turn one seat for the national election proposal was allocated for every 60,000 votes . There was one seat for a remainder of more than 30,000 votes. The number of seats on the Reich election proposal was limited to the number of already allocated constituency seats.
The division of constituencies and constituency associations remained essentially unchanged from 1920 to 1933; In 1924 only the numbering changed and the two Silesian constituency associations were merged.
