Catholic parish church hl. Martin ObjectID : 26207 |
Sankt Martin 3 KG location : St. Martin |
The originally Romanesque church was baroque and enlarged in the second quarter of the 18th century . Its late baroque high altar dates from the middle of the 18th century.
The church was built in Romanesque style around the year 1182 , the east tower with the twin arched window and the apse window on the east side bear witness to this. In 1732 the new baroque church was built while retaining the old tower and choir. The tower received a third floor and a baroque roof. The ringing was supplemented with 6 bells. The oldest bell dates from 1541 and bears the inscription: "SALVUM FAC POPULUM TUUM ET BENEDIC HEREDIATI TUA". The plans for the baroque renovation come from Johann Mathias Steinl . The high altar depicts St. Bishop Martinus and is the work of a pupil of Paul Troger in 1735. The Gothic side chapel ( sacristy ), the Romanesque baptismal font from the 13th and a Gothic crucifix from the 14th century, as well as the entire baroque interior are remarkable . Behind the window in the apse at the top left is the box of the Prince of Weitra in which St. Attended mass . |
