List of foreign organizations designated as terrorist by the United States Department of State
The list of by the United States Department of State designated as terrorist organizations abroad ( US State Department list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations ) leads from the US State Department as foreign terrorist organizations or associations classified organizations.
The assessment is based on Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) and was expanded in 2001 based on Executive Order 13224 . FTO designations play a crucial role in the US war on terrorism and are, in US beliefs, an effective means of curbing support for terrorist activities and exerting pressure to get out of the terrorism business.
The list includes extremist-Islamist, communist and nationalist / separatist groups.
States associated with international terrorism are kept on a separate list ( State Sponsors of Terrorism ).

The list consists of two parts: the first includes the associations and organizations classified as terrorist, the second lists organizations that are no longer classified as terrorist and have therefore been deleted from the first.
