List of the tallest television and telecommunications towers in Germany
The list of the tallest television and telecommunications towers in Germany includes all television and telecommunications towers in Germany with a total height of 150 meters.
After television broadcasting began in Germany in 1952, a new transmitter network had to be set up to ensure optimal coverage. To this end, the Stuttgart television tower, created in 1955 by civil engineer Fritz Leonhardt and architect Erwin Heinle , was a special architectural path that marked a new type of building. With the Hanover telecommunications tower (today: VW Tower ), which went into operation in 1960, a new type of television tower finally broke through in Germany. To standardize the various telecommunications towers, series of three different types were defined, the so-called type towers .
In contrast to the type towers, some towers in Germany were designed less according to functional aspects. The so-called special towers often house a public area in the tower cage , are usually significantly higher than the type towers, architecturally individually designed and are usually located in large German cities. The division into special and type towers only applied to the towers operated by the Deutsche Bundespost . TV towers of the former German Democratic Republic with public areas are significantly lower , with the exception of the Berlin TV tower and the Dresden TV tower .
