List of castles, palaces and mansions in Berlin and Brandenburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of castles , palaces and mansions in Berlin and Brandenburg shows the corresponding buildings in the two German federal states . These buildings, some of which can look back on 1000 years of history, were the scene of historical events, the workplaces of well-known personalities and are often still impressive buildings today. Ornamental and replicas that were never used as residential buildings or for defense are not listed .

lock As early as 1301, a moated castle was mentioned in place of today's castle. At the beginning of the 16th century, the moated castle was expanded into a three-wing complex; the builder was the von der Schulenburg family . It is a simple, three-story baroque building. The park facade is characterized by three-axis side elevations and a five-axis central elevation. On the courtyard side there is a pigeon tower, that used to be the staircase of the castle. Moated castle The former moated castle was first mentioned in 1301. At the beginning of the 16th century, the castle was combined from several buildings into one structure. Today's four-wing complex was built in 1560. The castle was badly damaged in the Thirty Years War, but was gradually rebuilt afterwards. From 1994 to 2007 the castle was renovated and converted into a hotel. Inside, the vaults on the ground floor are still largely preserved. Zeesen pleasure palace Zeesen Pleasure palace The former was the first Maison de plaisance (pleasure palace) built in Brandenburg from 1688 to 1690. The plans for the castle came from Johann Arnold Nering , the client was Eberhard von Danckelmann . From 1934 to 1947 the house was used as a summer house by Gustaf Gründgens and Marianne Hoppe . Castle ruin At the end of the 12th century a castle was built on Elsterinsel. This was converted into a renaissance castle from 1568 to 1579. Most of the castle was demolished after repeated fires. What was left was the keep, the Lubwart Tower . There is a cylindrical structure on top of a square brick tower.
