List of locomotives and multiple units of the Norwegian Railways

The list of locomotives and multiple units of the Norwegian Railways is intended to give an overview of locomotives and multiple units in Norway and their construction number designations.

Abbreviations and Explanations

The numbering system of the Norwegian State Railways is simple: the main type (electric locomotive, diesel locomotive, etc.) is numbered consecutively. With modern locomotives, the manufacturer's designation was partially adopted, or the earlier series designation was adopted for acquired locomotives. The complete locomotive number consists of the leading letters (which are often left out), the serial number and the serial number (for example El 17.2221). Often the dividing point between serial number and serial number is missing, especially with railcars.

The most important series designations are:

  • Di = diesel locomotives
  • El = electric locomotives
  • Ska = shunting tractor, battery
  • Skb = shunting tractor, petrol engine
  • Skd = shunting tractor, diesel engine
Railcar
  • BM = 2nd class motor vehicle, 1 driver's cab
  • BFM = 2nd class motor vehicle with luggage compartment, 1 driver's cab
  • BMU = 2nd class motor car, intermediate car
  • B = 2nd class carriage
  • ABS = control car 1st 2nd class
  • BS = control car, 2nd class

The multi-part multiple units have names for the individual cars, while the entire multiple unit runs without a letter designation. So the BM 69.006 + BS 69.606 result in the multiple unit 69.006 , with the number of the control vehicle or motor vehicle written on the front sides.

The following abbreviations are used by railway companies in the article. This list of rapid changes in company names, as they have occurred since 2001, when rail traffic was liberalized in the European Union, does not claim to be complete.

Railcar

The first NSB railcar with a combustion engine was called Co-m Type 1 , which was later veined to Cmo Type 1 . To this day there are five different versions of how the railcars were labeled.
